Herringbone stitch is my favorite hem stitch for clothings, it is fast and makes hems elastic.
My samples on jeans cloth:
I started fastening a piece of lace with small Herringbone stitch, and then I decorated some Satin stitch with Herringbone stitch.
I tried to make a few petals.
Then a doodle swatch with some French knots.
Finally I made a flowerwith Buttonhole stitch in the center.
It does make a beatufil filler doesn’t it? Love your work, specially the petals
